Post-Op Rehab
Physical Therapy Services In Kansas
Following orthopedic surgery, you will likely need physical therapy to help strengthen your muscles and re-establish joint motion and function. That’s what post-op rehabilitation is all about. It can be a lengthy process lasting weeks or months compared to the several hours spent in the operating room, but it is an essential part of your recovery.
At Hutch Physical Therapy & Wellness, Dr. Terry Goss is an expert at providing rehabilitation for patients who are recovering from orthopedic surgery. She and her staff provide post-operative treatment on an outpatient basis, and Dr. Goss maintains longstanding relationships with many surgeons in the Hutchinson, Kansas area. This allows her to keep up-to-date with the latest surgical techniques and procedures to ensure that her patients receive the best physical therapy care and recover as fully as possible.
The most common types of surgery requiring follow-up physical therapy treatment include:
- Joint replacement: knee, hip, shoulder, ankle, elbow
- Arthroscopy for:
- Knee ligament tear (ACL and PCL)
- Knee cartilage (meniscus) tear
- Rotator cuff tear
- Hip and shoulder labral (cartilage) repair
- Carpal tunnel release
- Achilles tendon tear repair
- Spinal fusion
- Disc repair and replacement
- Fracture repair
Dr. Goss will create a treatment plan and review it with your surgeon. Your rehab will include therapeutic exercises such as strength training, stretching, and aerobic (cardio) exercise as well as manual therapy techniques such as soft tissue and joint mobilization, massage, and myofascial release. Together they help decrease pain, build your strength, improve range of motion and flexibility, increase circulation, and restore your mobility and function.
Other post-operative treatments or aids may include the use of heat, ice, electrical stimulation, ultrasound, crutches, walkers, splints, or slings.
Using a combination of approaches tailored for your specific needs, Dr. Goss can help get you back to work, sports, or other activities as quickly as possible.
