Joint Manipulation
Joint Pain Relief In Kansas
At Hutch Physical Therapy & Wellness, Dr. Terry Goss is highly trained in joint manipulation and mobilization, a hands-on technique that helps increase motion and decrease pain in affected joints.
Manipulative therapy, or manual therapy, involves using various levels of gentle force to enable movement in a joint with decreased range of motion. The technique can be used on any joint that lacks mobility, including the shoulder, wrist, hand, hip, knee, foot, and ankle as well as the vertebral joints of the neck and back. Although similar to manipulation, joint mobilization is not as aggressive, but is nonetheless effective in increasing motion in a joint with limited range of motion.
Not only does joint manipulation increase range of motion within a joint, it also helps:
- Decrease pain
- Reduce or eliminate soft tissue inflammation
- Minimize muscle spasms in the back
- Induce relaxation
- Enhance tissue repair
- Improve joint function and flexibility
Not all joint manipulation relies on manual therapy. For example, a flexion distraction table can be used to treat the lower and mid back. The table moves up and down, side to side, and in and out to provide traction that mobilizes a patient’s spinal joints. It can help to resolve disc herniations and relieve spasms in the surrounding muscles.
